eReader Pro

THE DESCRIPTION:
eReaderPro is a nice-looking but slow app for reading e-books.

THE GOOD:
eReaderPro is more elegant than similar e-book readers. Like other readers, it has day/night modes, but with more muted, pleasing colors. It’s easy to highlight and make notes, and the chapter listings include page numbers.

THE BAD:
The first, worst downside is the speed. eReaderPro is SLOW, especially on longer books. The page turn gesture is swiping right to left – it’s the same as turning pages in your iPhone, but different from page turns in other reader apps. The app sometimes mistakes a page flip for a highlight, which is a minor but persistent annoyance. Unless you plan to spend money, eReaderPro is not where the famous authors are. You can, theoretically, get books from any site on the internet, but that site has to be willing to make downloads available in eReader format. To get “premium” (read: contemporary trade) books, you have to pay, and you need an eReader login for the eReader/ Fictionwise shelf or eReader mobile. Finally, the program claims to have a jukebox view of book titles, but it’s not obvious how to get there.

THE BOTTOM LINE:
It’s pretty, but it’s slow, and the offerings are limited. For free books, use Stanza instead. If you want to pay for books, just get the (free) Kindle for iPod app from Amazon.
