THE DESCRIPTION:
The Fandango iPhone application is a lighter, more streamlined version of the online movie page. The program lets you check out movies playing in your area and browse local theaters when you enter your zip code.
THE GOOD:
It was very easy to scroll up and down this comprehensive list of movie titles, and you can watch previews and get a quick 1-5 fan rating of the movie. The app even lets you see what’s coming soon. The theater search engine is very thorough, listing all of the small, independent locations in the area in addition to the major cinemas. They’ve also eliminated all of the excess “fluff” that’s on the website.
THE BAD:
Though all listings provide an address, phone number and (usually) show times, finding a place that offers tickets online can be a challenge.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
It’s free, AND it’s a good source for local, up-to-date movie information, and previews. “Showtimes” offers the same service for the same cost (FREE), but Fandango dominates the online movie market; they’re connected to over 16,000 screens in the U.S.
