THE DESCRIPTION:
Gymgoal ABC is the most basic version of Gymgoal’s exercise and workout database program. There are 250 different exercises and routines, all with step-by-step instructions and animated video demonstrations.
THE GOOD:
Gymgoal ABC is a very user-friendly interface with a lot of practical fitness information. A visual bodymap allows you to search specific exercises by muscle group, or you can customize your search according to name, difficulty, category and equipment. There are also 1-4 day split routines to choose from, as well as guidelines and background information to help you utilize their tools. The app can help you evaluate your own fitness and track your progress by calculating your Body Mass Index (BMI), Body fat percentage, and Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR), and saving your information in a chart. If you’re curious, there is also a table outlining and comparing the features of Gymgoal ABC, Gymgoal Lite ($1.99), and GymGoal ($7.99) available on the application.
THE BAD:
This program is definitely geared toward strength training; the “Cardio” exercise category is really only a list of suggestions – running, volleyball, and the like – and the list is provided without instruction. Though it contains a lot of information, without personalized advice, I doubt it would make a good substitute for a personal trainer.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
There are several similar applications available, all with individual features and purpose; this is definitely one of the best for overall fitness information. If you’re looking for an independent, convenient, and cheap way to learn more about exercise and try some new strength-training routines, this is a great tool. Spend an extra dollar for iFitness if you’re serious about getting instruction, and check out Fitness Plan or Gym Buddy to focus more tracking your fitness progress.
