THE DESCRIPTION:
iTranslate, based on Google Translate, allows you to translate between 42 different languages.
THE GOOD: iTranslate is powerful, with 42 different languages to choose from. Unlike some other translation programs, you are not limited in your translation options, even if you start from an uncommon language. There is even a setting to disable the iPhone’s auto-correction if you aren’t typing in English. There aren’t many extra features thrown in, but you can click a button to email the translated text to a friend.
THE BAD:
iTranslate is stable and responsive, but unfortunately is online-based. Use overseas would be impractical; you could rack up some hefty roaming fees.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
For domestic use, iTranslate is free and well-presented. If you’re looking for something that doesn’t require an internet connection to help you get around in a foreign country, a company called TranCreative has a line of various languages for about a buck each.
