THE DESCRIPTION:
Molecules is a database of molecules that allows you to select individual particles in each molecule, as well as access statistics, descriptions, and a 3-D structural model for each one you download.
THE GOOD:
The three dimensional model of each molecule is the best selling point for this application; you can flip, turn and zoom in/out on each color-coded diagram with your finger tip. The information page provides statistics like the number of atoms and the molecular sequence. The app comes with six molecules to start.
THE BAD:
You have to search manually and download each additional molecule you want to explore. Also, the application is very specialized.; if you don’t know much about molecular structures, you’ll get lost pretty quickly. It doesn’t help that there isn’t a master list to scroll through, either.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
If you’re studying or interested in molecules, this is a cool way to get them on your phone. Don’t bother otherwise. The app could be a little more convenient, but it’s still potentially useful. Upgrade to “Compounds” for $1.99 or “iStudy: MCAT Molecular Genetics” for $2.99 if you’re serious about test prep.
