THE DESCRIPTION:
The Whole Foods app has a comprehensive database of organic and natural food recipes with an “Overview,” “Method,” and “Ingredients” provided for each.  Listings are categorized by course, category and special diets.

THE GOOD:
This is a very clean, user-friendly system with a lot of variety; you can search manually or based on categories, including, “Budget,” “With Kids,” “Entertaining,” “Quick & Easy,” and several others.  You also have to ability to customize results with special dietary conditions such as “Fat Free.” “Gluten Free,” as well as “Vegetarian,” which are all signified by color-coded symbols. Your results include an image, detailed nutritional information, a precise list of ingredients and preparation instructions. If you don’t know exactly what you’re looking for, search by what you have on hand, and the app will generate suggestions. Finally, the app is equipped with a store locator map to help you find the nearest store.

THE BAD:
Even though it’s developed by Whole Foods, the app does not include a shopping list or link to the store’s merchandise. Prep methods aren’t broken down step-by-step, and the instructions could be a little more specific.

THE BOTTOM LINE:
Use it to find nutritional solutions and special dietary alternatives or just to come up with new meal ideas. If natural, organic foods aren’t your thing, you may not want to bother. Try “160,000 Recipes” for more variety with less organization, and “Epicurious Recipes & Shopping List” if you want a shopping list as well. If you’re new to cooking, this application will not hold your hand through the process, but it’s a useful tool when you’re deciding what to make.
