Aubrey’s Puzzles: Subway Shuffle

Aubrey’s Puzzles

THE DESCRIPTION:
Subway Shuffle is a deceptively simple puzzle game. Shuffle subway cars along a web of many-colored tracks to open a path for your target car to get to its destination.

THE GOOD:
This game, developed by an MIT computer scientist, is surprisingly hard! You must move a subway car along its own (same-colored) track to get to its destination. To do this, you have to move all of the cars that are blocking it out of the way – but only on their own same-colored tracks. The first few levels are really easy, and you get addicted quickly. Once it’s time for level 3, you need serious brainpower. The graphics are simple, but they do the job. There’s also an altered version of the graphic that is better, color-wise, for colorblind people, which is a nice touch. Arrows on the bottom reverse your moves, the arrows on the top change your level. The rewind button on the far left takes you to back to the beginning of the level. There are 91 layouts in all!

THE BAD:
The game has some replay value, to try to minimize the number of moves it takes to solve, but once you’ve done that a few times, if you have a good memory, you will have exhausted the game. After that, you’ll have to take a break until you forget how you solved it!

THE BOTTOM LINE:
For a good taste of Subway Shuffle, there’s a Lite version for free that gives you the first few levels and then a sample of some of the harder ones. If you manage those, there’s a good chance you’ll want to buy the full version!
