THE DESCRIPTION:
Real Tennis 2009 is a tennis game that strives for realism, with 8 players, and 7 stadiums with 3 surfaces each.

THE GOOD:
With 8 players, 7 stadiums (each with 3 different surfaces), a career mode, local wi-fi multiplayer option, and a wide variety of different types of strokes, this game clearly lives tries to live up to its name as “REAL” tennis.  The Career mode is probably the best feature since you can join a tennis tour and play sets like a pro.  Game play and graphics are top quality. Originally this game was $10.00 so it’s great that Gameloft lowered its price to a more reasonable price tag.  So if you enjoy tennis, why not try the “real” thing?

THE BAD:
The controls are terrible!  It uses a cross-shaped D-Pad (familiar from old school game controllers). The D-Pad works like a joystick, so it definitely takes some time to get used to it on the iPhone. Serving is also a little awkward; you do it by tilting your iPhone.  The iPhone’s accelerometer is supposed to aid in realistic game play, but using it is hard; twisting and turning the phone during a fast match isn’t really that easiest thing.  With this game, figuring out your sweet spot takes time.

THE BOTTOM LINE:
Real Tennis 2009 is not necessarily an ACE, but if you’re a sports fan, you may just LOVE it.
