THE DESCRIPTION:
Anthem Music Videos, powered by last.fm and YouTube, gives you a personalized music video channel based on artist search.
THE GOOD:
In the app, you can click to play, or click another button to buy the song from iTunes. In addition, Anthem is compatible with iPhone, which Shazam and Pandora are not.
THE BAD:
You can only get a channel based on your enjoyment of an artist – there’s no title search. Some video takes a while to load, some is choppy – all depends on YouTube and your internet speed. You need to be in the app to play the music; if your phone goes idle, the music shuts off. Finally, and in the biggest missed opportunity for the app, there is no Pandora-style option to “like” a piece of music to influence the channel – you just have to make a new channel for an artist.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
There’s not a lot of reason to use Anthem instead of YouTube. For personalized music channels and recommendations, use Pandora (if you have a mic), then just YouTube the videos.
