The Description:
Spikey is a clever game that finds you in control of a little round spikey character who needs help to free his butterfly friends from the glass jars they are trapped in. Use the iPhone touch screen to fling Spikey in different directions in order to destroy blocks that are holding the butterflies in the air. Each level presents its own unique challenges as you progress through the game. Free all the butterflies with as few moves as possible, and avoid spikes and wasps.
The Good:
Once you start playing Spikey, it is startlingly difficult to stop. While the game play is simple and straightforward in many ways, the levels are well designed and the basic motion of flinging Spikey around never gets old. Each level is unique and presents different challenges. The obstacles are cleverly placed and add another dimension of difficulty to the game that makes you become a better player.
The Bad:
In some levels you lose control over Spikey to a certain extent. When there are many “bouncy” elements in a level, you can bounce around for an extended period of time and become helpless and unable to control the fate of Spikey. However, this eventually becomes an element of the game that you must get used to in order to proceed.
The Bottom Line:
Despite only one possible action – flinging your spikey, blue and ball shaped character around each level – this game from “Donut Games” is surprisingly dynamic and endlessly fun. Although some aspects of gameplay could probably be improved, Spikey is hopelessly addictive.
